This session brought on a wonderful change in how I photograph maternity sessions.
This couple really wanted to include the entire family with only a few images of just Jenny.
Session consultations are so important! Without it I wouldn't have known their thoughts and preferences and the shoot would have gone completely different.
Instead we have a fresh and fun-filled session with beautiful images of a wonderful family.
By now they have welcomed baby Grace and I am so happy for them!

Ruth entered the modeling field with the McCarty Agency as a lucky teenager where she received her first instructions on photographic make up application, where she worked for nearly 10 years doing print and runway work. During that period she also received ongoing training in the beauty industry on make up and its application. Ruth has painted faces for literally hundreds of women from professional models to pageant contestants, as well as brides to graduates to anybody who's nearby when the make-up bag is out... are you next? Something very exciting is happening! You can now have your make-up and hair done at the studio right before your session by the very talented Ruth Baumgartner.
I'm so excited to have Ruth on my team! We've been talking about this for a couple of years now, and it looks like this is the year! We might even start a monthly beauty tip on this Blog covering make-up, clothes, colors etc.
For the make-up itself we'd start the same as with our session - a consultation. So you don't have to come over twice, we can combine the session/make-up consultation. "Great" you say? Absolutely!
Our aim is a very natural, fresh look to enhance your natural beauty, unless we find out in the consulation that you want to try something a bit more fun. So don't be shy to let us know what you like.

Can you believe the amazing eyes this girl has? Only once before have I seen lashes this long and she is simply beautiful and gorgeous to photograph.

What a great couple! We picked a nice day in February and just went for it!
I love bright colors in fresh snow, so during our consultation we made plans for bright and fun colors and accessories. What a difference that makes! Plus the black and white images are simply stunning with the wonderful contrast these scenes bring. Well, only one thing left to say: "Congratulations on your Engagement!"

Imaging USA in San Antonio

For the first time in my long career as a photographer I'm going to Imaging USA. This year it's in San Antonio, Texas. There are classes on any type of photography subjects all day as well as a huge tradeshow to see products, prints, albums and on and on.
I'm leaving today (updating this blog in the airport w my phone. Thank you technology!) and will be coming back Wednesday afternoon.

Breanne came to SWPA from Sydney, MT. I was thrilled when she called and said she had seen my work and wanted to come to Bozeman for her H.S. Senior Pic.
We wanted to do a mixture of things and ended up in several different locations.
Breanne has the most magnificent eyes and she was the most prepared girl I've ever photographed.
Her outfits where put together on hangers with the jewelry to go with it and it was a breeze to decide what we wanted to photograph where. She has great taste and works in a small Boutique in Sydney.
We had a super fun time and here are my FAVES to share. There is one more on my facebook, so if you're interested stop by there as well. I will create a Senior gallery on my page.

Meet Sean and his awesome Wonder Dog Larry!

One of my first summer High School Seniors was Sean. He's a great guy who works hard and loves his dog.
He also has a passion for hockey and is super laid back. We went out into the Belgrade area into places I've never been before. Driving around those fields and finding new places made this shoot exciting and fun!
And I do believe Larry loved it too. At least he seemed to be very happy to share the spotlight with Sean!

It's been over a month since my last Blog and it's high time to get back into the groove of things.
Summer is always a balancing act between work and my 2 boys. And trust me, between the two there was never a dull moment! On the contrary, I've had the most wonderful sessions and I really LOVE and enjoy my High School Seniors!
Now that school has started up again I'm spending most of my time editing images on the computer.
Whoever says that photography is all about the day of the shoot has clearly never worked in the field.
I do enjoy the editing part tremendously though, because it's another creative outlet and adds another level of art to my work.
I'm also still scheduling sessions and I have one High School Senior Session available on September 13th for a 20% discount off the session fee.
With the Holidays just around the corner this is the time to get a session scheduled for holiday gifts etc.

Fashion Style ... Hats

So I have this thing right now with hats. I love hats!
Unfortunately I look terrible wearing them. Or, as I have been told, I just haven't found the right one yet.
Well, when I saw Loni in one of her hats at the Bridal Show, I had to ask her to model for me.
I do that periodically. When I see someone I think looks stunning (obvious to them or not) I ask them to be a model for me.
So between my love for hats and fashion photography I had a blast photographing Loni that day.
She was awesome and we had a ton of fun. I only did close-up shots because I wanted to focus on the face and hats. Hats are such great accesories for anyone being photographed. It adds so much and is a fun way to try something unique, even if you normally don't wear them.
That's where creativity, art and photography get me excited.
Yep, Life is Art!

Baby Flower Power

Oh isn't she just eatable!
At 4 month old I couldn't believe how well Sienna was sitting up!
Granted, mommy was very close by and saved a few heavy duty tilts, but still!
And this was taken towards the end of the session and she was such a trooper!
Yeah for big huge flowers in the oh so cute and already long hair.

Singing in the Rain.....

Bridjour and I had so much fun doing Senior pictures on Wednesday!
We made through a couple of spots before it started to pour down like crazy.
Did that stop us? NO WAY!
I had my reflector over my head and Bridjours Mom had an aditional umbrella over her and I. :-)
And Bridjour.....well as you can see, she was having the time of her life dancing and jumping in the rain.
It made for super unique images, which is exactly what I'm after!
Embrace the rain and whatever else might show up in the middle of a photo shoot!
It's so worth it!

High School Senior Rep Cards or simply "A super cool card to share"

I have been working on Rep Cards for my 2010 seniors to hand out to the upcoming class of 2011. All of them have them in their hot little hands and that of course means specials for you.

School will be out in no time and in case you didn't get any of these cards, I have decided to put them on my blog and facebook. You can simply print the post and bring it to the studio during your consultation. I will honor the special that way.

Even if you are not sure what photographer to use for your Senior Pic, come by for a brief consultation. Meeting someone in person is much more revealing than going on their website or facebook page. True, first you really like their work. After that you should meet before the actual photo shoot. You wil be amazed at how much more comfortable you'll be at the shoot and how much more fun you'll have.

Long Weekend

Enjoy a nice and long weekend if you get one.
My boys and I were hanging out at the house today, enjoying the rain and eating ice cream!
Even with wet weather, go find something fun to do. Dress up and take pictures you can share on facebook, rock out to some fun music, cuddle up and watch a great movie along with some popcorn or write a story together. The list could go on and on, so go have FUN!

Handmade Tutus

So I partnered up with a great gal who makes these cute tutus and other various items for children.
Her business is called Blooming Adjectives and we did a round of “catalog photos” the other day.
This is just a small preview, but the expressions just kill me.
Since I have two boys I live vicariously through other people’s darling girls. :-)

Custom Designed Baby Announcements

I had a great time creating this custom baby annoucement for one of my clients.

There are so many different sizes and options now that it is very easy to find your style.

Sizes range from 4x6 and 5x7 flat or folded to 5x5 tri-fold etc.

The birth announcement here is a 5x5 tri-fold. We printed it on pearl paper, which is simply stunning.

Creating design pieces and collages is a big part of what I do. For me it is part of the art in my photography.

Salon Print Competition with MPPA

So here's the news, which some of you might already know from my facebook entry.

But let me explain first:

Every year I attend the Montana Professional Photographer Convention. It's held in different cities and in 2010 was here in my hometown of Bozeman.

At these conventions, we as professional photographers take classes to further our skill. With new technology arriving almost daily, it is vital to keep up with what's new and exciting and it's so much fun!!

Not only do we take classes, we also get to enter our work into a Print Competition. Through "Professional Photographers of America" we can earn our "Master Photographer" by entering prints that score higher than 80 and doing other various tasks. So everyone who wants to work on their master enters prints to see how they will score. It's a very nerve racking process, because a panel of 6 judges will critique your work and score it accordingly. It is such a growing experience though that it makes it so worth it! It really does make us better photographers and stretches us to reach beyond our limits in creativity, lighting, impact etc.

The first year I entered was more or less a disaster. I felt defeated and was questioning my talent.
Well, after a small pity party I dusted myself off and began again. I had some ideas I wanted to work on and that's exactly what I did.
My fiend Lauren was adopted from Korea and she is just beautiful! I had photographed her before in her traditional Korean dress, but it's different lighting etc when you want to use it for competition. So I asked if she'd model for me again and of course she did.
I made some changes to the print in Photoshop and entered it along side 5 others into print competition at convention. It scored an 81 and also received 3rd place in the Women's Catergory. Hooray! My first ribbon! It also received one of 6 Judges Choice Awards and on top of that was honored to be placed in the "Montana Top Ten Photographers" category. Wow, what a humbling experience!
So now I'm already thinking about next year and what I want to photograph for competition.

Some changes to the Blog and feeling oh so good

A different kind of Collage

Collages don't have to be done with several images. If there's that one photograph that you just love, but would like to personalize it more and give it that customized look, there a million ways to do so.

Check out the two collages I recently created. Those collages will go into the husband's office. What a great idea! They are both a 16x20 size and look fabulous! One of them has the words of the song "Keeper of the stars" added to the background, because they really feel that serendipity played a big part in them meeting each other. Talk about personalization! I Love It!!

Laura's Harp Collage

I LOVE designing. Anything from brochures to collages to cards...there is so much room for creativity and fun elements; it just brightens my day.
Here is one of the collages I created for Laura. It will go up on a designated music wall her mother and I picked out. All three children play an instrument, and as they graduate we will add them to the wall.
Very fun project and another reason I love in home ordering consultation. It's a visual process by hanging different size images up on the walls to see what would work best. It totally eliminates all the guess work and the stress as well. I just got done designing her 11x14 collage, but I'll post that later when it's completely finished and approved.

A new year with lots of excitement already...

I can't believe it's already the second week in February!
You might be wondering what's been going on at Sabine Warden Photographic Art.
Well, in January almost all my time was eaten up getting ready for the 8th Annual Bridal Affaire up on campus. This year it was a two day event and I had a great time meeting couples as well as other vendors. There are some fantastic people out there with great products like anouncements, videography, creative flower arrangements etc. Very fun!
I have also been busy designing collages for my clients that were ordered in December. I love designing collages and cards etc. My new wedding brochure was so fun to work on and I think it turned out great. It's just a different level of creativity for me and I love seeing the power of images and words.
Now it's on to designing wedding albums and getting the studio ready for more photo shoots.
I have lots of work to show, but I won't post it all in one day. It would simply be too much.
I've decided to start with my 2010 Wedding Brochure. Pass it on if you know of someone looking for a wedding photographer.
2010, here we come. I'm very excited about this year!

You're probably wondering...

Why I haven't been posting new session sneak peeks and updates lately, or at least very sporadically. Well, it's called being super crazy busy. :-)
This last month has been such an amazing whirlwind! I've had the most amazing Senior sessions, plus families and business portraits as well. I can hardly keep up with the editing part of it all, so I've been sitting at my computer all day for the last 3 weeks, trying to make some progress.
Oh, and did I mention I had two awesome weddings as well? That's around 1200 images per wedding I still have to go through.
You know what though? I absolutely LOVE it! I love my work! I get to meet truly amazing people in my community and I have so much fun photographing them!
Anyway, I will be posting a sneak peak tonight and then try to post more sessions as I get them done. What fun!!!

There's nothing like brotherly love

This was a fun session today. There were really four boys, but the littlest one wanted nothing to do with pictures. I got some of all four, but this series was just too good to pass up. They had a great time and I pretty much encouraged their silliness. I really wanted to capture their silly faces energy and they never had a photo shoot quite like it. :-)

The many faces of Laura

Today was a great day in that I got to photograph beautiful Laura. The amazing thing about Laura is that she has so many talents and interests. Not only does she play the harp, but she also dances tap and hip hop. It was so fun to see her in all the different outfits she brought and to see her more serious and bubbly side. These are literally 5 images out of hundreds and I might post some more of her later on. Again, the color of the images on the blog is pretty sad. We'll see if it will come out better on my facebook page.

On Friday I finally got to meet little Thea. We did the maternity session and so it is always incredibly exciting to meet these precious babies.

Sarah was so nice and let me rock her for a while, so I got my baby fix at the same time.

Here are some images for you to see. She was the most content baby I've had in a while and it was just amazing to see how she snuggled right into Daddy's arms.

Now that Britt has won the Miss Montana crown it is already time to prepare for Miss America. New headshots are needed for that, so here are some beautiful ones of Britt that will be used for the Miss America application and some that are simply just my favorites.

I hope you all had a great 4th of July! I sure did and part of it was photographing the Norton family. They are an awesome family and their kids are just adorable. They had a blast playing by the water and in the area around it. Mosquito spray was a must however, or we would have been eaten alive. Fun times!

This will be great! Being on facebook will be an extension of my blog. A lot of my clients and friends hang out on facebook all the time and it might just be easier to check out what's new on my facebook page than on my blog. I'll try to keep the updates pretty similar, but I can definitely upload more images on facebook than I can on my blog. After all, you don't want to be scrolling down for hours on end just to see a session or a wedding I just did.

I'm so excited, I can barely sit still to update my blog this morning!

Brittany Wiser is our new Miss Montana 2009 and I am so very very excited for her!!!

I had the privilege to photograph Britt in January this year for her College graduation and also for her Miss Montana head shots. She is the most amazing girl and so very dedicated to what she does. She really deserves this award and I could jump in the air for joy!!

Go Britt!!! You never cease to amaze me!!!

Different dress and different hair-do make this little cutie into a super-cutie. Boy, the camera really loves her. :-) She's absolutely adorable.

I've had the privilege to photograph her since she turned one and I love all the sessions we've done. Maybe I need to post 1-2 images from each session to show how much she's grown.

Back from another educational seminar

Happy Tuesday! I'm back!
You probably didn't even know I was gone. Yes, I attended another wonderful photography seminar through the Montana Professional Photographer's Association. Very fun and as always, lots of great tips and tricks. This is my way of finding out what's new in the industry and to continue my education as a photographer.
Now I'm trying to get caught up here at work (return phone calls and emails) and to update my senior site. There will be new specials this year and I still have last years up on the website. SORRY about that.

Urban Fun

This was a fun session Monday morning. We were so lucky with the weather. First it was freezing, then it started to rain a little and then the sun came out. Talk about living in Montana.

We found some great places to shoot and I got some great images. I've barely started editing, but I loved these right away.

Expressions of Hope...

What a stunningly beautiful lady!
She just finished the last treatments of chemo and radiation and I wanted to capture her amazing spirit. The quilts shown here are all handmade and were done while going through the treatments. She said as time went on the quilts just became brighter and brighter.
I hope and pray she can leave the dark behind forever.
She is truly a shining light for all of us...

I finally finished editing this session, and there are so many images I want to share with you. I picked out nine and yes, I will post them all here.

Another reason I'm excited about my upcoming website changes is that I will have a "featured gallery" link where I will post my favorite sessions in their entirety. So if your session rules, it will be there and not just a fraction of it. How would that be? To me, very exciting!

Long weekend update...

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! We took our kids to Chico Hot Springs and had a picnic in Livingston after that. It was really fun! We've just been soaking up the sunshine here at our house.
Now it's Wednesday already and I've just been sitting at the computer, editing the sessions I gave you a sneak peek of. I did a corporate job yesterday and had to have it done today, so I feel a bit behind with everything else. That's the reason I'm not posting any images today, but I really wanted to check in with everyone.
I've gotten some new, fun backgrounds in that I can't wait to try out and Senior Season is just around the corner. I'm also in the process of creating a new website which will have two separate websites in one. The first one will be for portraits and weddings and the second one will be dedicated to High School and College Seniors. This will change with the season, but I think it will be really fun!

Baby Baby

I love Maternity sessions! Pregnancy really doesn't last that long and the belly doesn't start to show until about 6 month along. What a precious memory to create for yourself as well as your children. When I was pregnant with my second son I went in front of the camera for a change and had professional maternity portraits done. I still treasure them and when I look at my little boy and think that back then he fit inside my belly I'm still amazed. It brings back memories when he was just born and I would hold him for hours... SIGH!

I can't wait to meet this mamma's little one. We already scheduled the newborn session and I'm very excited to be introduced to this darling girl.

This photo shoot happened a few hours ago and of course I had to dig in and start playing with a few of the images. I love this type of photography. It's a mix between fashion and modeling style, and to me, the more extreme the better. This is the style I'd like to use more with my High School seniors this year. Hip and Fun all the way!!
I just noticed that the color in the second photo is not at all what it really looks like. Might just be time to look for a better Blog. Make sure to check out my website to see the real deal. It's so much better.

This one is pretty special, because she got to wear the same dress her grandmother used to wear. So amazing and we decided to go retro style. I'll post more once I get done editing all of them.

So here is a collage I created with Olivia's baby pictures. As a matter of fact, it's hanging in my gallery as a 16x20 canvas wrap and I absolutely love it! I wish you could see and feel the real thing. It's so much better as a large print, but hopefully you can enjoy this version as well.

I'm here in Helena until Tuesday at our Annual Convention with the Montana Professional Photographer's Association. It has already been so amazing and I have picked up tips and tricks, lighting techniques and other fun stuff that I'm excited to try when I get back.
What I love about my work is that there is always something to learn and there are always new approaches and fun ideas. I'm never bored and I'm the kind of person that wants to do new things all the time. I get bored easily. :-)
There won't be new images on my blog until next week when I get back.

Jess and Ben are so much fun and they gave me a lot to capture. There really wasn't any posing going on. They just went for it. LOVE IT!

I LOVE photographing babies!! There is something very special about these new Little Ones and I feel that is always shows in the photographs. They might not have been on this planet for very long, but their eyes seem to say that they know a lot more than we could ever imagine.

Little Princess

I never thought this image would be the result of yesterday's photo shoot!
We wore those kids out pretty fast and yet they still gave me some amazing expressions. Which goes to show that if you just take your time, let them do their own thing (don't ask them to smile all the time) and have FUN with them, the most amazing things happen.
I have some great images of Jacob (Hannah's little brother) too, but haven't had a chance to edit them yet. And this might not be the last of Hannah's photos either.
I just had to put this one up for everyone to enjoy today.

My first Wedding this year....

What a FUN day I had on Saturday, shooting my first wedding of the year!
Everything was set up at Chico Hot Springs, except the ceremony. For that part I got to ride on the rented yellow bus (Yellowstone National Park) with the Bride and Groom and Wedding Party and head to a beautiful chapel in Mammoth. It was a BLAST!!
I can't believe we had such great weather with no snow and good lighting. The only element we had to deal with was the wind, but it was managable. That realization really hit me yesterday when we got dumped on with I don't know how many inches of snow and cold.
WHEW, I am so grateful!
Now I know you guys want to see some images, but I'm just uploading them now and I think I shot over 1200 photos.
Alright, I just scanned through them a bit (at least the part that is already uploaded) and there is one FANTASTIC one of Jesseca that I'll share today.
More to come as I keep working on them.

Here is another session that I did last fall. It was soooo much fun!
Lauren had received this authentic Korean hambock from her husband as a gift, and in return we created some amazing images for him for Christmas.
It was truly amazing to learn about another culture.
And since Lauren was adopted as a baby, she had the perfect line:
"It's not my tradition, but it's my heritage..."
LOVED IT!!

Okay, this is ridiculous! I haven't blogged in about 4 month and it's not because I'm not busy. There's plenty of stuff to show and plenty of thoughts and ideas running through my head.
So today is the day for a new start with blogging for me!
I'm trying to decide if I should show some of my work I did in the fall just for an update on all those sessions or if I should focus on what I want to do this month. I think it might be fun to post some of last falls sessions and then move on.
It's my goal to blog between 2-3 times a week to keep everyone posted on upcoming specials and news. This will be a fun filled year! I'm so excited!

This Halloween Portrait Open House will be so much fun! Why go through all the work of dressing up your kids without being able to have a great photo of it? I don't know about you, but I always ended up having part of my living room in the photograph, since I didn't want to decorate my studio for just two kids. So this year I've decided to have an Open House for anyone who wants the real deal Halloween photos.

Julianna's Senior Session

With Julianna we decided to go with the combo session, since we wanted to play with her super cute dress. The studio pix turned out really playful and fun.
The outdoor shoot showed off more of her serious and artsy side. Of course these are just a few of the images, but we went really creative and different.

Angel's Senior Session

This is the time of year where you have hardly any time for doing fun stuff. That's why my blog has been neglected and I sincerely apologize for that. My goal is to put up a couple of senior sessions today as well as an announcement.
Now to the good stuff. Originally we were going to do a studio only session. After I met with Angel we both realized that the best fit would be outdoors, since she has quite the artistic and creative mind and we wanted to use some fun buildings etc. We had such a blast and she loves the images.
It's all about finding your niche....

More Seniors

The most important part about senior sessions for me is to put your thoughts and ideas into your images. Not everyone has their own ideas however, which makes it my job to find out what you do like. Adam knew he wanted outdoor images only. I found out he is a swimmer at Bozeman High and literally had to beg him to let me do some photos at the swim center. I love those images! It shows his love and passion and makes him look so cool! I'm not sure he's convinced of all that, but I hope he won't mind my sharing them with all of you.

Anyway, lots of ideas to think about......

I LOVE Senior Season

This was the year to change things a bit and do something completely different for my High School Seniors. I started with a consultation to find out exactly what it is we wanted to do. That has made a huge difference and the photo shoots were relaxed, fun and creative.
Even if you've already decided against professional senior portraits because you just couldn't find what you were looking for, it's not too late. Graduation isn't until next May and regardless of the yearbook photograph, the importance of senior portraits is to remember that last year through amazing images. This might be your only time to get professional images done. Divide the price by all the years you'll enjoy them; passing them on to your kids, and I think it's well worth it.

Beautiful and Interesting

Women need to discover their true beauty, because I believe as woman we are all pretty amazing in what we do and who we are.
In this photo shoot we wanted to achieve several things. We wanted to use them as business portraits for publications, but also give them as portrait gifts to family and friends. What did that mean? It was all about capturing the interesting and strong, yet soft and classy look .
I love these images! I believe it shows exactly that.

Oh my gosh! I LOVE these images!
We wanted to do something different for Trevor to show his personality.
He was so excited about the motorcycle; he did not want to get off. :-)
We took so many images and Trevor didn't mind at all! He did such a great job and even started posing for us and showing us his "moves".
Doing photo sessions outside makes it so much easier for kids to be themselves, relax and have fun instead of dreading it. The same goes for the parents by the way.

I can't believe just how fast this summer has gone! I have been photographing some of the cutest kids and have not had a chance to post them here! Check back often to see the new faces! :-)

Hannah and Jacob were sooo adorable! Jacob has the best smile and is such a happy baby and Hannah loves to dance and twirl and have fun! We had such a great time together and got some wonderful images, capturing their personalities.

Photo Session of Braden

I love taking images of babies, no matter what their age! It was even more fun photographing 8 week old Braden, because we did the photo shoot in the comfort of their home.
Rather than doing some studio work I suggested to Katie to have the images taken at their house. She was thrilled and we got some great shots of Braden by himself and Katie with Braden. It's an absolute must for me to photograph Mom and baby together, because usually the mother is the one that takes all the snapshots and is therefore never in any picture! I know this from experience! :-)

I am so excited to start up my new website. I know many of you are looking for the updated website to go live and believe me, I'm working on it every day. I'm hoping it will be up in about 2 weeks or so. Most of it is done, just all the last minute details are still waiting.
